Description:
The oldest wetlands center, founded in the 1970s by Howard T Odum. There are 10 academic staff, 30 graduate students, and up to 60 staff members from the UF campus who are involved, some as co-investigators. The HTOCFW collaborates with the Greek wetlands program, a South American wetlands program, and researchers in Uganda.
Funding:
The budget comes out of the College of Engineering, but the center earns no overhead, since it is taken by the home departments of the faculty and graduate students involved.
Research:
The research tackled by the HTOCFW includes: constructed wetlands for restoration and mitigation, minimum water criteria for wetland ecosystems, biological indicators of wetland ecosystem health/diversity, and energy valuation. Recently, three books have come out of the HTOCFW and the center has an active website that is useful in formalizing linkages with other wetland centers. More than 900 publications have emerged from research conducted by associated scholars.
