Description:
HOORC started as a small lab in 1986 and has grown into a University of Botswana-housed entity. It is a multi-disciplinary, natural resource management-focused research center. There is a new research facility with 15 academic staff, laboratories, and offices. HOORC is involved in management planning in the Okavango river basin with Okacom.

Research:
A multi-disciplinary approach is taken around the theme of natural resource management of the Delta. Projects include river basin scale analysis of entire three-country catchment, hydrology of the Delta, work on seasonal floodplains, community-based natural resource management, management planning for the delta, land use and land cover for the entire catchment.
Training:
Teaching/training and supervision of post-graduate and undergraduate students, most of who come from abroad. The Center will be the field site for the Southern African Universities Consortium Ph.D. program in natural resource management. Consortium includes University of Pretoria, Venda University of Science and Technology, University of Botswana, and University of Virginia.
